Hello My Name is Paul Smith

Design Museum is currently holding "Hello My Name is Paul Smith". The exhibition offers a rare insight into the mind of the designer and his creative process.
Sir Paul Smith dropped by the exhibition during lunch break. My friend and I were lucky enough to see him in person at the venue last Saturday. Many people asked him to sign their books.
Paul Smith is a photography enthusiast. He is interested in taking pictures and also collecting others' photography for inspiration of his collections.
His office at Covent Garden
Paul Smith's love for colours and patterns injects a truly unique quirky feel and personal touch of style into his own office.
Others' collaborations with Paul Smith
Achive of collections
He is also one of the pioneers who used photography as prints on fabrics
Each store of Paul Smith around the world is different from each other
Let alone the sale, entering the store itself IS a fantastic experience of shopping.

The exhibition lasts until 9 March 2014

I am lucky to be offered an internship at a really cool British designer label after completing my course. The studio is not big but it is a good chance to know every bit of everything like the design process and production.

On the other hand, I have never been so eagerly looking forward to weekend in a long, long time. Do not read me wrong. I enjoy spending time in the studio. The job sometimes does require lots of physical work and a great deal of energy consumption.  However, the most tiring activity is commuting from home to work every day, catching trains and being jostled by the crowd in the tube. Not to mention taking the bus and being stuck in the traffic congestion. I can go on talking about London transport all day but I decided not to. At least not today.

Lately I discover the online shop of Weekday - and its collection MTWTFSS. I fell in love with their clothes at once. (Too bad they do not have any stores in the UK or China) Plus they are offering some really big discount on Cheap Monday jeans for X'mas at the moment. I have placed my first order today!!

Some of the prints are fun and quirky. But most of the clothing are in line with the appealing traits of Scandinavian fashion - simplicity, minimalism and attention to detail.
Time to ask for Santa's little help for my pocket

Cookery Lessons

having lived alone for more than two months since my former housemates went back to their home countries, finally I have no one to rely on for my dinner. Its not that I cannot cook, as I always tell my friends/boyfriend/ family so, I just don't want to cook for the others. I am not selfish. But I am a person who really cares about criticism and I dread having people disappointed about me/ my food. Of course they would not tell you how bad the dish was in a direct way. But speaking in an indirect way hurts as bad as telling the truth. I prefer not having the fear of being a disappointment as a cook and giving myself the pressure of false perfectionism. The difference between a real perfectionist and me is that I will not try to make it perfect. I will only go straight to moaning about my imperfection. So I have a good reason not to cook.

However, I do like cooking. It is interesting (when I am not starving). Plus cooking is an absolutely enjoyable way to kill your time. It resembles the process of crafting. As if salt and pepper is your colour paint... the final product is totally dependent on you, made by your own hands. The critics can be subjective but there are general rules about what is bad and what is good. The display is an art form. The colours always matter. The smell, the look... they stimulate your senses to create preferences.

as my cooking skill... well, I am getting on it. At least, right now I am good enough for myself.
